Svetlana Zhurova doubted that Russian fighters in the UFC would be allowed a flag
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs and Olympic champion in speed skating Svetlana Zhurova responded to the decision of the leadership of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to allow fighters, including Russians, to enter fights with the flags of their countries. Match TV reports this.
The ex-athlete doubted that they would have such an opportunity. “I don’t know how well this decision will be documented. It is possible to go out under the Russian flag. Are your opponents ready? Are the fans ready? Will there be protests or not? – said Zhurova.
Earlier, UFC head Dana White announced the return of flags to tournaments. “Everyone knows my attitude towards certain moments, I just don’t care. Everyone is too soft, everyone is too sensitive to everything. If any flags hurt your feelings, that’s too damn bad,” White explained.
In 2022, the UFC banned fighters from fighting with flags, not wanting to create political tension. More than five Russian fighters are in the top 15 in different weight categories. Islam Makhachev is the current UFC lightweight champion.
