Former FIFA President Blatter called the 2030 World Cup format absurd
Former President of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Joseph Blatter criticized the format of the 2030 World Cup. His words are quoted by Blick.
Blatter called it absurd that the tournament would be split across three continents. “In addition, historically, the 2030 World Cup should belong exclusively to South America. The final part of such a tournament should be a compact event,” he explained.
On October 4, FIFA announced that for the first time in history the World Cup will be held on three continents. The 2030 tournament will take place in Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Morocco, Spain and Portugal. It was noted that the opening matches of the group stage will take place in South America.
Blatter has served as FIFA president since 1998. In 2015, he was removed from office due to a corruption scandal.
