The head of the ROC Stanislav Pozdnyakov said that he sees no point in leaving the IOC
The head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, discussed the organization’s possible withdrawal from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). TASS reports this.
According to the functionary, legally such a procedure does not exist. “I don’t see the point in any drastic actions to exit or enter. We are part of a large sports system, a self-sufficient part, and we will develop in accordance with current conditions,” Pozdnyakov said.
Earlier, the head of the ROC criticized the IOC recommendations on neutral status for Russian athletes. Pozdnyakov called them sports genocide.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who do not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. However, athletes associated with the armed forces or security forces of their countries are recommended not to be allowed to participate in tournaments.
At the end of February 2022, many sports organizations banned Russians from participating in tournaments on the recommendation of the IOC. At the same time, in some disciplines, such as tennis, MMA and chess, Russian athletes were not excluded and continued to perform in a neutral status.
