Manager Abdel-Aziz: if he wins over Oliveira, Makhachev will fight with Gaethje
Ali Abdel-Aziz, manager of Russian mixed martial artist (MMA) Islam Makhachev, named his next possible opponent. He spoke about this in an interview with the YouTube channel The Schmo.
Abdel-Aziz said that if he defeats Brazilian Charles Oliveira, Makhachev will fight American Justin Gaethje. “We want this. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) wants it. Justin deserved this fight,” he said.
Makhachev and Oliveira will meet in the main event of UFC 294, which will take place in Abu Dhabi on October 21. For the Russian, this will be the third defense of the UFC lightweight title, which he won in October 2022. Then he defeated Oliveira ahead of schedule at UFC 280. Subsequently, Makhachev successfully defended his title in a fight against Australian Alexander Volkanovski, the organization’s featherweight champion.
In total, the Russian fought 25 fights in his career, in which he won 24 victories and suffered one defeat.
