FHR appealed to the IIHF with a request to allow Russian youth teams to participate in tournaments

Tretyak asked the IIHF to return Russian youth teams to tournaments

The head of the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF), Vladislav Tretyak, said that the organization sent a letter to the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) with a request to allow Russian youth teams to participate in tournaments. TASS reports this.

“We have addressed this issue, now we will send another letter,” Tretyak said. He expressed hope that the IIHF will follow the example of the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), which proposed the return of Russian youth football teams to tournaments.

On September 26, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian national teams among players under 17 years of age to participate in international tournaments. The organization noted that admission is possible only in a neutral status, that is, athletes can receive the right to perform without the flag and anthem. On October 4, FIFA made the same decision.

The IIHF suspended the Russian and Belarusian national teams from participating in competitions under its auspices in February 2022. Russia was also deprived of the right to host the 2023 World Cup and the World Youth Championship.
