Sky Sports: FIFA will allow Russian youth teams to the World Cup if selected
The International Football Federation (FIFA) is thinking about returning Russian youth teams to tournaments. About it reports Sky Sports journalist Rob Harris on social media X.
According to the source, FIFA is considering the possibility of lifting some of the sanctions against Russian teams. It is noted that Russian national teams under 17 years old can be admitted to the World Cup in a neutral status if they qualify through the European Championship.
On September 26, the executive committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) proposed allowing Russian national teams among players under 17 years of age to participate in international tournaments. The organization noted that the proposal includes admission in a neutral status, that is, athletes can receive the right to compete without the flag and anthem.
After this, a number of countries announced a boycott of matches with Russian teams. This decision was announced in England, Ukraine, Poland, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, Norway and Romania.
