Islam Makhachev said that he asked the UFC for a fight with Charles Oliveira in the summer in the USA
Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev turned to Brazilian Charles Oliveira about a rematch. The athlete spoke out on a page on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
“Charles, I asked for a fight in the summer in the USA, but the league has other plans. I am a fighter just like you, and I have never set conditions for the UFC. I fought where they offered,” said Makhachev.
On October 21, Makhachev and Volkanovski will have a rematch at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi. Earlier, Oliveira, in an interview on James Lynch’s YouTube channel, complained about the unfair choice of the venue for the fight.
Makhachev defeated Oliveira on the night of October 23, 2022 at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. The Russian defeated his opponent by choke and became the organization’s lightweight champion.
During his career, 31-year-old Makhachev suffered one defeat and won 24 victories (12 of them in a row). The 33-year-old Oliveira has 34 wins and nine losses. Another fight with his participation was declared invalid.
