Rodnina assessed the possible lack of prize money for Russians for the 2024 Olympics

Rodnina was surprised by the possible lack of prize money for Russian participants in the 2024 Games

Three-time Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina appreciated the news that Russians who will go to the 2024 Olympic Games in neutral status will not be paid prize money. Her words are reported by Sport24.

Rodnina was surprised by the possible lack of prize money due to her neutral status. “I can’t say one hundred percent, but there are no prerequisites that something should change. Russia will support athletes at the Olympics if we go there,” she said.

On September 20, Deputy Minister of Sports of Russia Azat Kadyrov said that Russians participating in the Olympic Games 2024 in a neutral status will not receive prize money. “They go like no one from no one, athletes have to give up everything,” he explained. Kadyrov stressed that athletes will be removed from the Sports Training Center, and all expenses should be borne by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In March, the IOC recommended allowing Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special military operation in Ukraine to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in tournaments.

The Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The issue of the participation of Russian athletes in competitions has not yet been resolved.
