Deputy Minister of Sports Odes Baysultanov condemned Russians changing their citizenship
Deputy Minister of Sports of Russia Odes Baysultanov spoke about athletes who decide to change citizenship. Match TV reports this.
According to him, the department cannot officially condemn anyone, but he himself is strongly opposed. “My personal opinion is very bad, if he left, let him stay there. When things get a little difficult for the country, it’s wrong to run,” Baysultanov said.
On September 12, Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin shared his opinion on the change of citizenship by Russian athletes. He said the process does not harm the country. “The important task here is to create conditions under which athletes would be interested in continuing their careers here,” he noted.
At the end of February 2022, many sports organizations banned Russians from participating in tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. At the same time, in some disciplines, such as tennis, MMA and chess, Russian athletes were not excluded and continued to perform in a neutral status.
