Joseba Ezkurdia and Jon Mariezkurrena have been proclaimed champions of the 2023 CaixaBank Masters after winning this Sunday by 22-6 to Jokin Altuna and Ander Imaz in the grand final played at the Navarra Arena. The reds have dominated the fronton and have not even given the blues a chance to dream of the txapela.

Both couples made it to the final on Friday after beat their rivals in the semi-finals. Ezkurdia and Mariezkurrena II won 22-20 Jaka and Martija, while Altuna III and Imaz won 22-13 to Peña II and Rezusta.

The Ezkurdia-Mariezkurrena pair, today in red, started the match better and quickly took the lead over their rivals (8-1). The Arbizu striker has been fine and the blows to finish the goals have gone as he wanted, for which his best “friend” has been the hook. The serve allowed the Reds to get the goal’s script back on track, and Altuna’s defensive tasks in front of the four were complicated.

A mistake by Ezkurdia has allowed the blues to change the serve and the ball and the game has become more even. Altuna has been more comfortable and Imaz has helped him a lot, starting to get closer little by little on the scoreboard (8-4).

But everything has gone well for Ezkurdia and Mariezkurrena, especially for the defender, who has launched most balls nine backwards. Thus, they escaped on the scoreboard again and it seemed that they wanted to end the game as quickly as possible (14-4).

From there the blues have not been able to advance and the reds have dominated. In the end, Ezkurdia and Mariezkurrena have revalidated last year’s txapela after beating Altuna and Imaz 22-6.
