Gassiev said he tried to do everything in his power in the fight against Wallin
Russian boxer Murat Gassiev commented on the defeat from Swede Otto Wallin in the fight for the WBA Inter‑Continental title. The athlete spoke out on Instagram (the social network is prohibited in the Russian Federation; belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned).
“It’s a tough evening. I really wanted to win. I tried to do everything in my power. Failed… Nothing ends. There is strength and faith. I’ll be back! Ossetians, go ahead,” said the boxer.
On the night of October 1, Gassiev lost to Wallin by split decision. The fight took place in Turkey and lasted all 12 rounds. The Swede took second place in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) rankings, which was vacant before the fight.
On September 29, Wallin refused to shake hands with Gassiev during the pre-fight weigh-in. The Swedish athlete later stated that he did not make this decision because of politics.
Gassiev is a former champion of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and WBA. Now the Russian has 30 wins and two losses, and another fight was declared invalid. Wallin has 26 wins and one loss.
