The IPC General Assembly voted against the complete suspension of Russia’s membership
The General Assembly of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) voted against the proposal to completely suspend the membership of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC). This was reported on the organization’s page on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
The General Assembly takes place in Bahrain on September 28 and 29. Of the 152 members of the IGC, 74 were against the exclusion of Russia, 65 were in favor, and another 13 delegates abstained from voting. At the same time, the organization is still discussing the possibility of partially suspending the membership of the RKR.
On September 7, PKR President Pavel Rozhkov said that the IPC was preparing to permanently suspend Russia’s membership. He claims that the organization plans to avoid a repeat of last year’s situation, in which the Russian side, through a sports tribunal, achieved reinstatement of rights after the suspension of membership in the fall of 2022.
Last year, the IPC did not allow Russian athletes to compete at the 2022 Games. Initially, the team’s athletes were allowed to compete in a neutral status, but then the decision was changed.
