Shvetsky: Shabotova’s words about the correct doping of Tutberidze were taken out of context
Former Russian figure skating team doctor Philip Shvetsky explained the words of Ukrainian figure skater Anastasia Shabotova about proper doping in the group of coach Eteri Tutberidze. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.
The doctor said the words were taken out of context. “If you watch it in its entirety, it will be clear that she was actually joking and talking about pickles in general,” he noted. Shvetsky drew attention to the fact that Shabotova interned with Tutberidze for only ten days in 2017.
On October 26, 2022, Shvetsky stopped working with Tutberidze’s coaching staff. The doctor said that he was not working with a specialist, since his services were designed for the period of preparation for the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. During the competition, a doping scandal occurred with the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. Her sample on December 25, 2021 gave a positive result for the prohibited drug trimetazidine. The investigation into this case is still ongoing.
In January 2019, Shabotova’s words that the Russian national team, in particular in Tutberidze’s group, were using doping, caused a wide resonance. Later, the athlete stated that she said something stupid because she lost in the competition.
