This Thursday the Civil Guard searches the offices of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) located in the offices of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in Las Rozas (Madrid) to collect documentation related to the judicial investigation opened into the Negreira case.

Sources from the investigation have informed EFE that members of the Economic and Technological Crimes Group of the Barcelona Judicial Police Unit appeared at around 9:00 a.m. at the federation headquarters in search of documents in the offices. of the Technical Committee of Referees.

In parallel with the search, the investigating judge has issued an order in which he charges a bribery crime to the directors of FC Barcelona investigated in the case, as well as to the club itself as a legal entity, in addition to the former vice president of the CTA José María Enriquez Negreira and his son, Javier Enriquez Romero.

In this way, the crime of bribery is added to those of corruption between individuals in the sports field, unfair administration, falsity in commercial document and money laundering that until now were attributed to those investigated.

On the 5th, the Barcelona judge investigating the Negreira case determined that, although There were no indications that FC Barcelona bought referees with the “traditional payment method” for a specific match, he pointed out a “novel form of possible illegitimate remuneration” through a “possible systemic corruption” when qualifying and appointing members.

The head of the Investigative Court number 1 of Barcelona recognizes that, for the moment, it has not been possible to find out the fate given by the former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) José María Enriquez Negreira and his son to the nearly 7 million euros that FC Barcelona paid them between 2001 and 2018.

The judge considers that in this case there is a “innovative form of possible illegitimate remuneration for soccer referees”in a context of “possible systemic corruption within the CTA” at the time when Negreira was vice president of this organization and FC Barcelona paid him around seven million euros, according to the Barcelona club, to prepare reports on referees and arbitrations.
