Pozdnyakov said that the ROC’s trust in the IOC is at an “extremely low level”
The head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, said that the organization’s level of trust in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is at an “extremely low level.” His words are quoted by Sport Express.
The functionary said that the ROC spoke with the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, in October 2022 before the Olympic summit. “We agreed on the measures that we will take to return Russian athletes to the international sports world. Three months later, these recommendations came out, which crossed out everything we agreed on,” added Pozdnyakov.
In March, the IOC recommended allowing Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special military operation in Ukraine to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in tournaments.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC. The decision on the participation of representatives of these countries in the 2024 Olympics has not yet been made.
