Deputy Svishchev said that figure skater Zhou can be sued for libel
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev appreciated the statement of American figure skater Vincent Zhou about doping in Russia. His words are quoted by TASS.
Svishchev said that the athlete can be sued for libel. “He deliberately creates intrigue in order to catch on and take something away from Russian skaters,” he considered. The deputy wished Zhou to train more and show his skills on the ice.
On September 25, Zhou spoke about the widespread use of doping among Russian figure skaters. In his opinion, Kamila Valieva’s positive doping test is not an isolated case.
In response, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency accused him of concealing from the anti-doping organization the fact of violations of anti-doping rules by other athletes. The International Olympic Committee said it shared the athletes’ disappointment and was upset by the current situation.
