Zhurova called on Isinbayeva to explain herself after Vyalbe’s words about betrayal of her homeland
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs and Olympic champion in speed skating Svetlana Zhurova called on two-time Olympic champion in pole vaulting Elena Isinbayeva to explain herself after the words of the head of the Russian Ski Racing Federation Elena Vyalbe about betrayal of her homeland. Her words are quoted by Gazeta.Ru.
Zhurova stated that she would like to hear Isinbayeva’s explanations. She was surprised that the ex-athlete did not comment on this topic. “There is a lot of manipulation around this topic. We need to ask her, and not the so-called “commentators” who don’t know what’s true and what’s not,” the deputy emphasized.
Earlier on September 26, Vyalbe criticized Isinbayeva, who called her military ranks nominal. She accused the athlete of betraying her homeland.
On July 12, El Digital Sur reported that the former athlete lives in Tenerife. Also on her VKontakte page, the Russian woman wrote that her awards and military rank from the CSKA sports society are nominal. In addition, Isinbayeva has the rank of major in the Russian Armed Forces.
