US figure skater Zhou: Valieva’s positive doping test is not an isolated case

American figure skater Vincent Zhou shared his opinion on the doping situation in Russia. His words are quoted on the Global Athlete website.

“Positive doping test [Камилы] Valieva is not an isolated case. “My teammates and I are aware of widespread doping among other Russian skaters,” said a representative of the US team. He noted that the situation should not be surprising, since the Russian Anti-Doping Agency has not restored compliance status.

Zhou also blamed the International Olympic Committee, the World Anti-Doping Agency and the Court of Arbitration for Sport for their inaction. According to him, organizations should have removed Russia from world sports so that the country would receive an incentive for reforms.

At the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, Valieva won the team tournament as part of the Russian team, but the award ceremony for the winners and prize-winners was not held due to a doping scandal involving her participation. Traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021. Hearings in Valieva’s case will take place from September 26 to 29.
