MMA fighter Khamzat Chimaev announced that he will represent the Chechen “Akhmat”
Mixed style fighter (MMA) Khamzat Chimaev, who changed his citizenship, is on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned) announced his transfer to Akhmat Grozny.
The athlete posted a photo with the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, in the training room. “I represent the Akhmat team, the best in the world. I want to thank them so much for their support,” Chimaev wrote.
On September 22, the fighter’s manager, Mahdi Shammas, announced that Chimaev had renounced his Swedish citizenship. In the next match, the athlete will compete for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
On October 21, Chimaev will meet with Brazilian Paulo Costa. The fight will take place in Abu Dhabi as part of the 294th tournament of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Chimaev had 12 fights in his professional career without suffering a single defeat. In his last fight, on September 10, 2022, the athlete defeated American Kevin Holland by choke. The fighter was born in Chechnya, but at the age of 16 he moved to Sweden.
