Andoni Iruretagoiena “Izeta VI” is the champion of the Euskal Pentatloia 2023, after being the best this Saturday, September 23 in the Azpeitia bullring (Gipuzkoa) in the sixth edition of the new era. This year the women’s edition could not be played; They had five women registered, but three of them have had physical problems and the competition has had to be suspended.
Thus, in the men’s championship they have competed Julen Kañamares, Aritz Irazabal and Ioritz Gisasola (Zelai IV) in the first round, and Xabat Olaizola, Xabier Zaldua and Andoni Iruretagoiena (Izeta VI) in the second.

In total they have had to carry out five tests: in stone lifting, 25 lifts with a 100 kilo ball; in stone hauling, two places with 400 kilo stone; in axe, three half-grays; with 50 kilo txingas, 6 seatsand to finish, three kilometers running (30 laps around the bullring).
In the first round, the three athletes started wide in the stone liftingbut Irazabal has begun to take the lead little by little. He finished in 3 minutes and 54 seconds, 57 seconds ahead of Kañamares and almost a minute and a half over Zelai IV.
Irazabal did not want to lose the advantage he had gained and started immediately in the stone drag. He finished both places at 8:56 minutes, when the fatigue was more evident in his rivals. For its part, Zelai IV has overtaken Kañamares, who finished the test 2:50 minutes later than Irazabal. Kañamares, for his part, finished after four minutes.
By the time the other two have started in the axe, Irazabal already had a significant cushion on the clock, he was already in the second half and has maintained a good pace. Irazabal finished with the ax at 17:52 minutes. Not only that, he has also finished the job with the txingas when Kañamares and Zelai IV were still with trunks, in the 20th minute.
Zelai IV finished with the logs four minutes later, and Kañamares five minutes later. With the txingas they also finished with a similar time, although Kañamares was slower, but by then Irazabal had already done a third of the turns that had to be give to the square.
Irazabal’s advantage was too great and he was the first to finish with a time of 35 minutes and 35 seconds. Zelai IV was second at 4:21 minutes and Kañamares third at 6:14.

In the second round, Olaizola and Izeta VI have started in the stone lifting of the rapids, but the first one has escaped him and has ended up in 2:24 minutes, the best time of the day. Izeta finished 36 seconds behind and Zaldua 1:41 minutes later.
In it stone drag Izeta wanted to make up for lost time and put pressure on Olaizola. Zaldua, for its part, has begun to fall behind. Olaizola was the first to finish both places, at 7:50 minutes. Izeta also did well and was within 25 seconds. Zaldua was left out of the fight, finishing the test at 2:52 minutes.
With the axe Izeta VI has been faster and has taken the lead of the championship with a time of 16:35 minutes. Olaizola finished at 1:18 minutes, almost the same time that Irazabal did in the previous round.
Izeta, who has also finished the work with the txingashas begun to circle the bullring in 18:33 minutes. Olaizola started running 1:15 minutes later, and the fight for the txapela remained between them. Zaldua started running 3:18 minutes later.
There have been no surprises and Andoni Iruretagoiena “Izeta VI” has been the winner of the round and the Euskal Pentatloia with a time of 31 minutes and 55 seconds. Olaizola was second in his debut year, with a time of 34:05 minutes, while Zaldua finished third with a time of 35:20 minutes.
