Rodnina said that we must be prepared for any decision on Valieva’s doping case
Three-time Olympic champion in figure skating and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina commented on the doping case of Russian Kamila Valieva. Her words are quoted by RB Sport.
“I would like to finally know the full picture of what is happening. And then no one says anything. The case is shrouded in fog,” Rodnina said and added that we must be prepared for any decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding Valieva.
Earlier it became known that on September 26, 27 and 28 Valieva will take part in CAS hearings via video link. The figure skater demands that the gold at the 2022 Russian Championships be returned to her and that the results not be annulled.
In January, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency’s disciplinary committee, a body independent from the main organization, informed the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) of Valieva’s innocence. At the same time, she was deprived of gold at the 2022 CR. Later, the International Skating Union and WADA filed appeals with CAS and called for the athlete to be disqualified and her results annulled.
At the 2022 Olympic Games, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to the doping scandal involving her. Traces of a prohibited drug were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021.
