Kostomarov’s wife said that doctors are trying to save the athlete’s left hand
Oksana Domnina, the wife of Olympic ice dancing champion Roman Kostomarov, spoke on NTV about the athlete’s continued treatment.
Domnina shared that doctors are trying to save Kostomarov’s left hand. “They immediately decided to amputate the right arm. The doctors fought and are still fighting for my left arm,” she noted.
Earlier, Kostomarov told how he reacted to the fact that he needed surgery. According to him, after the chief doctor announced the need for amputation, he began to cry.
Kostomarov was hospitalized on January 10 with pneumonia and influenza B. Due to prolonged connection to a blood oxygenation machine and a ventilator, his tissue began to die. Doctors amputated both feet of the skater, then the shins of both legs, the entire hand of his right hand and several fingers of his left.
