The PNC Championship is celebrated with a rather unique premise: it is contested by champions of a major along with a member of their family.

Tiger Woods announced his return to competition after his serious car accident and also explained that in the tournament on his return he will be accompanied by his son, also golfer Charlie Axel Woods.

“Although it has been a long and challenging year, I am very excited to close it out by competing in the PNC Championship with my son Charlie. I will play like a father and could not be more excited and proud, “wrote Tiger Woods in his account of Twitter.

The PNC Championship is a golf tournament held in Orlando (USA) with a rather unique premise: it is contested by champions of a major with a member of their family.

Formerly known as the Father / Son Challenge, this year’s edition will take place from December 16-19.

Tiger and 12-year-old Charlie Axel Woods participated in the 2020 PNC Championship, where they reached seventh place.

This tournament will be the first that Tiger Woods has played since the accident he suffered on February 23 in Los Angeles (USA), which left him with significant physical consequences, especially in his right leg, from which he is still recovering. .

Considered one of the best golfers of all time, Woods admitted at the end of November that after his accident, he will “never” be the player he used to be, noting that he will no longer be able to dedicate himself to professional sports one hundred percent.

“I think a realistic thing for me is to play on the PGA Tour one day, but never full time, never again (…). But I do pick and choose a few tournaments a year, “he said in an interview with Golf Digest magazine.

“This is how I think I’m going to play golf from now on. It is an unfortunate reality, but it is my reality, I understand it and accept it ”, he added.

Although well known for being a fierce competitor and a tremendously ambitious athlete, Woods, 45, seems at peace with the possibility that he will not be able to return to his best level or play full time.

“I don’t have to compete and play against the best players in the world to have a great life,” he said.

“After my back surgery in 2017 it was as if I had to climb Everest once again. I had to and I did. This time I don’t think I have the body to climb it and that’s fine. I can play golf, and if my leg is good enough, maybe I can play a tournament here or there. But going up the mountain again I don’t think is a realistic expectation for me, ”he argued. (D)
