Edgar Sevikyan spoke about support after the decision to play for the Armenian national team

Nizhny Novgorod midfielder Edgar Sevikyan spoke about the decision to refuse to play for the Russian national team in favor of the Armenian national team. An interview with the player was published on the YouTube channel of the Russian Premier League (RPL).

According to the player, he understood that people would react differently to his action. “This in no way can affect my psychological state, cannot influence me in any way. Each person has his own opinion, and he has the right to express it,” Sevikyan said.

The footballer also noted that he received a lot of support. “Let’s say [футболист сборной Армении] Eduard Spertsyan wrote after my statement. He supported me and said he was glad. He said that he was waiting for him in the national team. I am very grateful to him,” added Sevikyan.

On August 31, Sevikyan, summoned to the national team’s September training camp, announced his refusal to accept an invitation to the Russian national team due to his decision to play for Armenia. The Russian Football Union did not receive any requests for the player.
