RFU President Dyukov sympathized with the ex-head of Spanish football Rubiales
The President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov spoke about the scandal that involved the former head of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales. TASS reports this.
The functionary from Russia sympathized with his colleague and also noted that he treats him with respect. “To be honest, I did not see what happened during the final, I did not closely follow the discussion of this moment. Humanly speaking, of course, I feel sorry for him,” Dyukov noted.
On September 8, Spanish prosecutors filed a lawsuit against Rubiales. The former head of the RFEF, who kissed the country’s women’s team captain Jennifer Hermoso at the 2023 World Cup, has been charged with sexual assault and coercion.
At the awards ceremony, Rubiales put a medal on Hermoso and kissed the soccer player on the lips. This drew criticism from the media and Spanish politicians. After the scandal, Rubiales apologized and said that he did it without malicious intent.
