Faces of joy and words of gratitude marked the tribute that the Office of the Mayor of Guayaquil, headed by Aquiles Alvarez Enríquez, paid for the first title won by the players of Barcelona Sporting Club in the Women’s Super League. The event took place in Plaza Colón, located between the hills of Santa Ana and del Carmen.

The bullfighting team drew 0-0 with Independiente del Valle Dragonas, in the first leg played last Saturday, September 2 at the Monumental Banco Pichincha Stadium, creating suspense for the second leg.

However, the motivation of tricolor coach Wendy Villón and the support of the board, led by Carlos Alfaro Moreno, were key to going to Quito on September 10 to propose their offensive game that surprised their rivals.

In the end, Villón’s team beat the Dragonas 3-0 at Banco Guayaquil. It was a symphony for the Guayaquil team, which was deservedly rewarded by the spectacular performance of the scorer Madelen Riera, who scored a double (37 min and 83 min), and the second goal was scored by Luis Espinoza (90 + 5 min).

“Thank you for this nice recognition, we have entered the history of Barcelona and it is something we will never forget. “I am grateful to God and to all of us who have formed this beautiful family through our work and to everyone who contributed to us winning this first Super League title for the institution and the city,” commented the technical director of the champions.

While the mayor of Guayaquil and former sports vice president of the club from the Canary Islands pointed out: “President (Carlos Alfaro Moreno), I remember that two years ago you concluded the engagement of coach Villón and now we see this great result, thanks to the efforts of each of them. We thank them for winning the tournament, because it not only raises the name of Barcelona but also of Guayaquil.”

Now the challenge for the bullfighters is the Libertadores, which will take place in the Colombian cities of Cali and Bogotá. The yellow team is part of Group A along with Palmeiras, Caracas and Atlético Nacional.
