Former head coach of the Russian national football team Stanislav Cherchesov commented on rumors about the offer to lead the Polish team. He is quoted by Match TV.
“I really do not like it when something is in the air that is not really there. Nobody has officially spoken to me on this topic, ”Cherchesov said. He noted that the Polish national team has a good coach, and wished the team to solve the tasks assigned to it.
Cherchesov suggested that the rumors began after he was spotted on the VIP stand next to the president of the Polish Football Union, Caesar Kulesza, at the Legia match against English Leicester in the Europa League. “This was the first time we saw each other,” said the specialist.
On December 7, the press attaché of the Polish national team, Jakub Kwiatkowski, denied rumors about Cherchesov’s invitation. He said that the team did not think about changing the head coach.
On November 1, it was reported that Cherchesov had a meeting with the leadership of Polish football. It was noted that the Russian specialist received an offer to lead the European team if the Poles fail to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
Cherchesov left the Russian national team after the European Championship. The team under his leadership failed to leave the group.
