The head of the RFU called the difficulty of the transition to Asia

Head of the RFU Dyukov: the decision on the transition from UEFA to Asia must be made before the end of 2023

President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov described the difficulty of the transition to the Asian Confederation. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Dyukov said that Russia cannot change the confederation without the consent of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). He emphasized that the decision must be made consolidated, and the entire football community must participate in it. According to the head of the RFU, the decision should be made before the end of 2023.

In December last year, the RFU executive committee created a working group that will study the issue of transition from UEFA to the Asian Confederation. The discussion was planned to be completed by March 2023. The International Football Federation (FIFA) said it will not prevent the Russian national team from participating in the qualification for the 2026 World Cup if the country moves to Asia.

On February 28, FIFA and UEFA excluded Russian national teams and clubs from international tournaments. Teams do not compete in European competitions, and the Russian national team lost the opportunity to compete for access to the final part of the 2022 World Cup.
