Zenit defeated Akhmat in a penalty shootout in the group stage match of the Russian Cup
St. Petersburg Zenit defeated Grozny Akhmat in the fourth round match of the group stage of the RPL Russian Cup tournament. This was reported by a Lenta.ru correspondent.
The meeting took place in Grozny at the Akhmat Arena stadium. Regular time ended with the score 3:3. In the fourth minute, the hosts’ midfielder Svetoslav Kovachev opened the scoring. In the 14th minute, Ivan Oleynikov increased the team’s advantage. Then the blue-white-blue striker Ivan Sergeev scored a double and equalized the score. In the 42nd minute, Zenit took the lead thanks to a goal from forward Mateo Cassierra.
In the second half, in the 69th minute, forward Vladimir Ilyin equalized the score again. In the post-match penalty shootout, the guests were stronger – 4:2.
After four matches, Zenit is in second place in the Group D standings with eight points. Akhmat is in third place with four points.
Another Group C match ended with the victory of the Samara “Wings of the Soviets” over the Kaliningrad “Baltika”. The meeting ended with a score of 2:1.
