Zhugin, who transferred to the CHL, said that in Canada they treat Russians friendly
Hockey player Valentin Zhugin, who moved to Canada, spoke about the attitude towards Russians in the country. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
“Have I encountered a negative attitude towards Russians? No. I don’t know how it is in the USA, but in Canada everything is fine, everyone is treated friendly,” said the athlete. He added that his teammates are interested in his life in Russia and are trying to learn some Russian words.
Zhugin is a graduate of Magnitogorsk hockey. Before leaving for Canada, he signed a contract with Metallurg, but did not play a single match for the main team. Since 2020, the hockey player has played in the Youth Hockey League for the Steel Foxes. In the summer of 2021, the forward entered into an agreement with the Guelph Storm and went to the Ontario Junior Hockey League (CHL). He currently plays there for the Saginaw Spirit.
Earlier, Russian defender of the National Hockey League (NHL) Calgary Flames club Nikita Zadorov spoke about attempts to instill Russian culture in children in Canada. The hockey player said that at home he communicates with children only in Russian, noting that his eldest daughter attends Russian language classes.
