Football player Shirokov said that the USSR had the greatest economic growth in the world
Former captain of the Russian national football team Roman Shirokov spoke about the advantages of living in the USSR. His words are quoted by Bookmakers Rating.
The athlete said that the country had the greatest economic growth in the world from 1929 to 1955, with the exception of the period of the Great Patriotic War. “We didn’t lose anything during that period, we only gained,” he emphasized.
Shirokov, 42, retired from his career in 2016. As a member of the Russian national team, he won bronze at the 2008 European Championship. The striker also won the UEFA Cup and Super Cup while playing for Zenit.
In August 2022, Russian mixed-style fighter (MMA) Alexander Shlemenko linked alcoholism in Russia with the death of the head of the USSR government, Joseph Stalin. The athlete said that after the Great Patriotic War, the USSR was the most non-drinking country, but then the policy changed.
