Guberniev, in a dispute about admission to the Olympic Games, said that Rylov had already won his gold
Journalist Dmitry Guberniev argued with Olympic champions Evgeny Rylov and Veronica Stepanova about the admission of Russians to the 2024 Games in Paris. His words are quoted by Soviet Sport.
“When my dear and beloved Rylov and Stepanova say that there is no need to go under such circumstances, and they give arguments, I want to remind them that they have already won their gold medals. Others want it too,” said the commentator. He emphasized that the Russians also competed in a neutral status at the previous Games.
Rylov is a two-time Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion in swimming. Stepanova is the Beijing 2022 Olympic champion in cross-country skiing.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions. After this, a number of federations allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to competitions.
The Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The issue of the participation of Russian athletes in competitions has not yet been resolved.
