Krasnodar footballer Spertsyan said that no one was waiting for him in the Russian national team
Krasnodar midfielder Eduard Spertsyan, in an interview with the YouTube channel of journalist Nobel Arustamyan, explained the decision to play for the Armenian national team instead of Russia.
“As a child, I had a dream to play for the Russian national team. It’s normal, I grew up there, and I’m grateful to the club for raising me. Everything I have is thanks to them. But then everything changed. me there [в сборной России] no one was waiting,” said the football player. He added that he was glad to represent his historical homeland.
On June 9, the Dutch Ajax made an offer to Krasnodar to purchase Spertsyan. The club’s sports director, Sven Mislintat, contacted the agency handling the player’s affairs. However, in August it became known that Mislintat was not given permission to acquire Spertsyan for moral reasons.
Spertsyan, 23, has Russian and Armenian citizenship. Since 2021, he has been playing for the Armenian national team. In the current season of the Russian Premier League, the midfielder took part in eight matches, scoring four goals and giving two assists.
