UEFA head Čeferin said that Russia will return to tournaments after the end of the SVO
President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Aleksander Čeferin answered a question about the return of Russian teams to international tournaments. He announced the timing to Sportklub.
“Russia will return to football only after the end of the SVO in Ukraine,” said the head of UEFA.
Earlier, UEFA commented on the situation with Russia’s position in the coefficients table. “At the end of the 2023/2024 season, Russia will be awarded the lowest number of points earned over the last five seasons, that is, 4,333 points for the men’s association club coefficient and 1,750 for the women’s association club coefficient,” the statement said.
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and UEFA excluded Russian national teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic teams do not compete in European competitions, and the Russian national team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for access to the final part of the 2022 World Cup.
