The Russian artistic gymnastics team announced the unacceptable conditions of the IOC
The senior coach of the Russian artistic gymnastics team, Valentina Rodionenko, spoke about the conditions for the admission of domestic athletes to competitions. Her words are quoted by TASS.
Rodionenko said that the conditions under which gymnasts must refuse state support are unacceptable. She emphasized that in this case the Russians will refuse to compete at the World Cup stages. According to the coach, in order to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris, under current conditions, gymnasts need to win all stages.
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has awarded Russia three places each in men’s and women’s competitions at the 2024 World Cup. It is noted that athletes must perform in a neutral status.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions. After this, a number of federations allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to competitions.
On March 4, 2022, FIG suspended Russian athletes from international tournaments. Gymnasts were prohibited from taking part in competitions held under the auspices of the federation. Also, judges and officials from Russia are not allowed to participate.
