Figure skater Valieva started training late due to a retinal tear
Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva said that in August she was diagnosed with a retinal tear. Her words are quoted by Izvestia.
The athlete said that she was actively training and planned to open the season by including a quadruple jump in her program, but during a medical examination she was diagnosed with a retinal tear. She shared that she underwent two laser coagulation procedures. After that, according to Valieva, she skated carefully for several weeks. “I went on the ice on September 6, so I reduced the load,” she said.
The figure skater added that she would like to restore her physical condition and enjoy her success on the ice.
In July, it became known that Olympic figure skating champion Anna Shcherbakova fell ill with mononucleosis. Due to illness, she was forced to suspend training at the preparatory training camp for Eteri Tutberidze’s team in Novogorsk, Moscow Region.
