Former South African national team player Booth said that he was surprised by the drinking culture in Russia
Former South African national team player Matthew Booth spoke about the things that surprised him in Russia. His words are quoted by Sport24.
Booth recalled how, on the first day after moving to Rostov, he went to a grocery store where there were ten shelves, five of which were for alcohol. “My eyes widened, but only then did I realize that thanks to vodka and beer, Russia is a country with a huge drinking culture. It is at the same level as in England. What it took me a long time to get used to was drinking like my teammates,” the foreigner shared.
Booth played in Russia for Rostov and Krylia Sovetov. He played in the Rostov club from 2002 to 2004, in the Samara club from 2004 to 2008.
Earlier, Serbian midfielder of CSKA Moscow Sasha Zdelar said that he was surprised by the cleanliness of Russian cities. “The capital of Russia is simply an incredible, magnificent metropolis. Every time I’m amazed at how well everything is organized here,” he said.
