Vyalbe said that Russians cannot participate in the Olympic Games in a neutral status
The head of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR), Elena Vyalbe, made a statement about the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympic Games in a neutral status. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Vyalbe said that without a flag and anthem, Russians should not participate in the Olympic Games (OG). “I’m not saying anything at all about the declaration, it’s complete discrimination. And my position will not change,” she emphasized.
On September 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian athletes must independently decide to participate in the Olympics in 2024. He emphasized that first of all it is necessary to be guided by the interests of athletes in this situation.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions. However, the final decision on the participation of Russians in the Games in Paris has not yet been made.
