Gallardo confirms he will stay at River Plate for another year

This Wednesday, Marcelo Gallardo announced at a press conference that he will remain at River Plate for another year. Argentine’s contract with the club would end at the end of this year.

“After so many years and what an institution like this requires, I needed to reflect and decide what I was going to do. I didn’t have much time, but I decided to go on. It’s a decision that goes beyond what I’ve lived and felt, it’s worth it, I deserve to be a year more and after the match against Colón, rest a little and face a new year with a lot of energy,” stated the coach.

With the imminent end of his contract, Marcelo Gallardo had his name speculated at Flamengo, which fired Renato Gaúcho after losing in the Libertadores final, and at the Uruguayan team, without a coach since the departure of Óscar Tabárez.

Gallardo leads River Plate since 2014. Since then, they have played 357 games, with 191 wins, 91 draws and 75 defeats.

During the period, the Argentine club won several titles. There were three national cups, one South American, two Libertadores, three South American Cups and one Argentine Championship, guaranteed recently.
