The Portuguese João Pinto, ‘One Club Man 2023’ award from Athletic

The Portuguese João Domingos da Silva Pinto, known in football as Joao Pintothe player with the most games played in the history of the Portis the ‘One Club Man 2023’, an award given by the Athletic Club to footballers who have only worn one shirt in the elite throughout their sporting career and, therefore, “represent the united values” of the Bilbao club.

Joao Pintor happens in the record of ‘One Club Man’ to Matthew Le Tissier (Southampton), Paolo Maldini (Milan), Sepp Maier (Bayern Munich), Carles Puyol (Barcelona), Billy McNeill (Celtic), Ryan Giggs (Manchester United) and Ricardo Bochini (Independent).

The rojiblanca entity has also delivered four ‘One Club Woman’ to the Swedish Malin Möstrom (Umea), the Germans Pia Wunderlich (FFC Frankfurt) and Jennifer Zietz (FCC Turbine Potsdam) and, last May, to Matilde Martinez ‘Mati’ (Albacete Foundation).

Athletic has announced that Joao Pinto will receive the accreditation trophy on the 27th, on the occasion of the league match between the red and white team and Getafe, on the eve of the celebration of the 130th anniversary of the founding of Porto.

The legendary Portuguese defender defended the colors of Porto for 16 seasons, between 1980 and 1997. He played 587 games, a team record, and won 9 league titles, 4 Cup titles, 8 Portuguese Super Cups and, internationally, one Cup of Europe, an Intercontinental Cup and a European Super Cup.
