Organization of the sporting event gave new details about the test at a press conference, in which the honorary consul of the French country was also present.
The Government of France seeks to collaborate with Ecuador in the training of cycling professionals and L’Étape by Tour de France, event to be held in Cuenca in February 2022, is seen as an opportunity for rapprochement between both nations in sports matters.
The announcement was made this Wednesday by Thierry Souet, honorary consul of France in Guayaquil, at the press conference in which he presented himself, in a hotel in the Main Port, to the sponsors of the Grande Boucle franchise test.
“France wishes to collaborate with Ecuador in the training of Ecuadorian professional trainers. Some of them would like to have access to a training that entails a diploma and to be able to use their knowledge in the field of health sciences or sports medicine, such as nutrition, as well as the psychological and mental preparation of athletes. The embassy is in contact with the National Institute of Sport, Experience and Performance of France, to develop this cooperation and support Ecuadorian values, ”said Souet, who appeared on behalf of the French ambassador to Ecuador, Frédéric Desagneaux.
The conversation with the media this day was also attended by Sebastián Palacios, Ecuador’s Minister of Sports; Mario Sabato, Argentine cycling commentator and rapporteur, and Pedro Vera, manager of the organizing firm Endepro.

“The Government is providing all the support, not only through the Ministry of Sports. We have talked about the need to make a partial or deep arrangement of the routes through which the event will pass. Obviously there is an investment. We will coordinate with the security and transit institutions. Qualifying this project as applicable to the tax incentive is very important. That makes the companies that sponsor the event want to bet much more on you. We are sure of that. This is one of the projects that has already achieved an investment of 2.4 million dollars directly from private companies to sports thanks to the tax incentive. We want the investment to be higher next year ”, intervened Palacios.
Tour de France ‘amateur’ race arrives in Ecuador by 2022
L’Étape by Tour de France will take place in Cuenca, in February, from Friday 18 to Sunday 20. There will be three distances: one of 40 kilometers, family and recreational; and two competitive ones, one of 80 kilometers, with 1,700 meters of unevenness, and at the bottom, 145 kilometers with 2,600 meters of unevenness. And it will feature supersprints intermediate, mountain prizes and “a final that will remain engraved in the memory of those registered,” detailed Vera.
The organization, which already in October reported on the main details of the event in the Azuayan capital, also detailed that the registration for the test is still open. “We have 150 places left,” added the representative of Endepro, a licensing firm.
The race will have training sessions open to the public that will begin on December 18 in Cuenca. They will continue in Guayaquil (January 8), Santo Domingo (January 15), Quito (January 22) and again in the capital of Azuay (February 5).
