Rower Shtyl expressed an ambiguous attitude towards performing with a neutral flag
Olympic canoeing medalist Ivan Shtyl spoke about the dilemma of competing under a neutral flag. His words are reported by TASS.
Shtyl expressed an ambiguous attitude towards performing without national symbols. “As for performing under a neutral flag, this is normal for a professional, but not normal for a citizen of the country. Therefore, in every athlete now these two factors are fighting,” he noted.
Previously, the International Canoe Federation (ICF) allowed Russian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. The organization said the decision was made after consultations with the international community.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions.
