Case filed against Luis Rubiales over kissing scandal at World Cup
The National Court of Spain has opened a criminal case against the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, over the scandal with the kiss of national team player Jennifer Hermoso. El Pais reports.
According to the source, the court accepted the complaint from the country’s prosecutor’s office for consideration. It is noted that the police are collecting video of the moment of the kiss. The judge also asked that video of celebrations in the dressing room and bus of the Spanish women’s team be included in evidence.
On September 8, Spanish prosecutors filed a lawsuit against Rubiales. The ex-RFEF head who kissed Hermoso at the 2023 Women’s World Cup has been charged with sexual assault and coercion.
At the awards ceremony, Rubiales put a medal on Hermoso and kissed the soccer player on the lips. This drew criticism from the media and Spanish politicians. After the scandal, Rubiales apologized and said that he did it without malicious intent.
