Medvedev calls his wife’s anniversary gift for US Open defeat a “shitty” gift
Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev commented on his defeat in the final of the US Open 2023. His words are quoted by the US Open Tennis Championships Youtube channel.
He noted that two years ago he won with the idea that this would be an excellent gift for his wife on their wedding anniversary. The athlete added that usually the dates of competitions change, but this time the meeting took place on a memorable day. “And today is shitty [подарок]”, Medvedev said.
In the decisive match, the athlete met with Novak Djokovic. The match ended with a score of 6:3, 7:6 (7:5), 6:3 in favor of the Serbian. The tennis players spent 3 hours and 17 minutes on the court.
Medvedev is ranked third in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, Djokovic is in second place. The US Open was held in New York from August 28 to September 10. This year’s tournament prize fund is a record $65 million.
