Luis Rubiales resigned as president of the Spanish football federation
Luis Rubiales in Twitter announced that he has submitted his resignation from his post as president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
Rubiales said that after being disqualified by the International Football Federation (FIFA), he will not be able to return to his position. He stressed that he does not want Spanish football to suffer from the scandal. “I believe in the truth and will do everything in my power to ensure that the truth prevails,” added the former head of Spanish football.
On August 26, FIFA suspended Rubiales for the incident at the Women’s World Cup. The suspension is for 90 days.
At the award ceremony, Rubiales put a medal on Spain captain Hermoso and kissed the soccer player on the lips. This drew criticism from the media and Spanish politicians. After the scandal, Rubiales apologized and said that he did it without malicious intent.
