“There are people who didn’t bet on us, but now we have responded. My dream was to be a champion with the team I love,’ says Madelen Riera, captain of Barcelona SC, champion of the women’s Superliga

This Sunday afternoon, Barcelona SC achieved the only title it was missing, which was the women’s championship by defeating Dragonas IDV 0-3 away, at the Banco Guayaquil Stadium in Quito.

Madelen Riera’s double and Luis Espinoza’s goal delighted the nearly 700 Canarian fans who arrived at the striped stage.

Riera, multiple champion together with Wendy Villón, bullfighting trainer, was satisfied with the goal achieved and thanked for the support.

“Since I arrived in Barcelona I said to myself: I have to be a champion with my team and now I have achieved it. “I feel proud and happy,” said the gunner.

“We did a good job, we won 3-0, there were people who didn’t bet on us, but now we responded and gave our best,” he added in an interview with El Canal del Fútbol.

Riera, the top scorer of the tournament with 27 goals, besides dedicating the victory to his family, also dedicated it to the corrida fans who could not enter the striped stadium.

“The fans couldn’t get in, you can see there’s a lot of space in the stadium, but we managed, because Barcelona SC is big, I love them and we won, thank God,” he commented.

“Independiente was a very strong rival and gave everything as we did, but we took that cup,” Riera concluded. (D)
