Arequipa does not have any beds available in hotels

The president of the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Arequipa (NOW), Teresa Rubina, reported that currently 95% of the hotel capacity in the city of Arequipa is occupied. She explained that the 5 thousand beds available in the Cercado de Arequipa are already reserved or occupied due to the Perumin-36 Mining Convention, which will take place from September 25 to 29 and expects to receive more than 65 thousand people. Rubina pointed out that many of those attending the convention will have to opt for renting apartments or houses due to limited hotel availability.

In addition, he mentioned that many travel agencies are offering accommodation in districts far from the city, like La Joya, to meet demand. The president of AHORA highlighted the importance of Perumin not only for its sector, but also for boosting the city’s economy, benefiting hotels, restaurants, crafts, taxis and rentals of all kinds. She stressed that after the convention the economic impact can be evaluated.

Likewise, he highlighted the benefit of the organizers having decided to celebrate Perumin in Arequipa for two consecutive years, since it is generally organized every two years. After the convention, the hotel sector is awaiting the Lions Club’s Latin American Lions Forum, which will bring together between 1,200 and 1,500 people from January 17 to 21, 2024 at the Cerro Juli convention center. In addition, a new edition of the Arequipa International Tourism Fair is scheduled for November 2023, which will take place on November 9 and 10. Hay Arequipa is another of the upcoming activities.
