Daniil Medvedev said that it was amazing for him to win against Carlos Alcaraz
Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev commented on his victory over Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open semifinals. His words are quoted by the tournament’s YouTube channel.
“I said that I needed to play 11/10, but I played 12/10, except perhaps for the third set. He is so young, and he already has two Grand Slam titles, he has been the first racket of the world for a large number of weeks,” Medvedev said. He added that it was amazing for him to beat a tennis player like Alcaraz.
Earlier on September 9, Medvedev beat 20-year-old Alcaraz at the semi-final stage of the tournament. The match ended with the score 7:6 (7:3), 6:1, 3:6, 6:3. The tennis players spent 3 hours and 19 minutes on the court. In the final, the Russian will meet Serbian Novak Djokovic.
Medvedev is ranked third in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, Djokovic is in second place. The US Open takes place in New York from August 28 to September 10. This year’s tournament prize fund is a record $65 million.
