The footballer, who is considered one of the best strikers in the history of Ecuador and an idol in the South American country, hung up his football boots at the age of 35 due to a lack of opportunities.

Since retiring, the man responsible for Ecuador’s first ever World Cup appearance in 2002 has been out of the football spotlight for a while, although he has expressed his desire to become a coach on several occasions. The Ecuadorian striker even tried to take off his football boots to return to professional football, but was unable to do so due to his delicate form after several years in the shadows.
