Euskaltel-Euskadi signs Xavier Cañellas
Xabier Cañellas has signed for one season (2024) with the Euskaltel-Euskadi. Trained as an amateur in the Basque calendar, winner of a stage in the Return to Bidasoaalready knows what it is to win in professionals and last year he certified his quality, second in Paris-Troyes and third in the Ordizia classic. This 2023accumulate three second places in Portugal and know what it’s like to compete on the Spanish, French and Portuguese calendar. Coming from the track, accumulates dozens of Spanish Championships.
“I am very happy to sign for Euskaltel-Euskadi since it means taking another step in my sporting career and it is a great opportunity. It will be a pride to wear the color orange on Basque roads. For me, Euskaltel-Euskadi has always been a great team and since I received the opportunity I didn’t think twice since it has everything I need. Furthermore, I will meet many well-known people from the Basque Country,” said the Balearic cyclist.
On the other hand, Cañellas’ professional teams have been the following: Caja Rural (2019-2020), Gios (2021), Java Kiwi Atlántico (2022) and Electro Hiper Europa (2023). Now he returns to the elite with Euskaltel-Euskadi. His incorporation is added to those of Jon Aberasturi (Lidl-Trek), Victor de la Parte (TotalEnergies) and Nicolás Alustiza, Iker Mintegiy Unai Zubeldiathe three from the LABORAL Kutxa subsidiary.
While, Jorge Azanza, sports manager of Euskaltel-Euskadi has pointed out that “Cañellas is a profile we need in the team, a fast cyclist who can give us presence and places in the top ten in classics, especially in France. He is qualified because he has already achieved it and it will be important for him to give his best to be able to continue growing here and obtain results.”
